Mr. Thornton spoke about his impactful roles on both the AI Commission Team and the AI Design Team:
On the AI Commission, he helps guide conversations around the ethical and unethical uses of AI, and supports the development of policy recommendations for state leaders—including the Governor, Legislators, Superintendents, and Directors.
With the AI Design Team, Mr. Thornton collaborates with post-secondary professors and CATE instructors to create a statewide AI curriculum, preparing students to understand and responsibly use AI technology.

DMTC's Electricity Program Receives Generous Donation from Siemens
The Electricity program at Daniel Morgan Technology Center (DMTC) has received a generous donation valued at approximately $27,000, thanks to Siemens, a global leader in electrical equipment and technology. The contribution includes new electrical panels, breakers, and motor control devices that will significantly enhance hands-on learning opportunities for students.
This exciting partnership began in May when Kevin Ramsey, Branch Manager at City Electric Supply, reached out to Maddie Everhardt, Business Development – Construction Technology, and Seth Moore, Sales Engineer at Siemens, to arrange a visit to DMTC. During their visit, Ms. Everhardt was impressed with the program’s lab setup and expressed Siemens’ interest in supporting the initiative by upgrading some of the existing equipment.
When the shipment arrived, staff and students were thrilled to discover that the donation exceeded expectations—providing not only replacements but also a wide range of state-of-the-art components that will benefit the program for years to come.
Siemens, known for supplying advanced electrical equipment to industries and contractors worldwide, has made a lasting impact on DMTC through this contribution. Their support underscores the importance of industry partnerships in preparing students for real-world careers in the electrical field.

Ms. Compton discussed how childcare centers use research-based practices to support healthy child development and how they collaborate with the Quality Counts program to continuously improve their services through feedback, coaching, and early childhood resources.

David Thornton, Information Technology Instructor at DMTC, recently represented our AI program at the SC Competes Fall Summit in Greenville. As the only educator serving on Governor McMaster’s AI Task Force, David has been a leading voice in shaping the future of AI education in South Carolina.
He also co-authored the state’s AI curriculum in partnership with the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB)— a major step forward in preparing students for the careers of tomorrow.
Dr. Honeycutt also spoke at the summit, adding valuable insight to the conversation around workforce development, education, and innovation in our state.

We had an amazing time hosting the Pink Bus Cybersecurity Experience at DMTC on Monday, August 25th!
Our Information Technology students got hands-on with real-world cybersecurity tools and dove into interactive SC Skillionaires games inside the mobile lab — making it a fun, eye-opening day packed with excitement and discovery.
Students explored binary code and uncovered how hackers retrieve data from computerized systems, giving them a firsthand look at how coding powers cybersecurity. The experience also highlighted the growing demand for cybersecurity specialists — a field where students can start earning $60K+ right out of high school with the right credential and no prior experience.
The presenters were incredibly impressed, saying DMTC students were the most prepared they’ve seen on their tour — a proud moment for our campus!

Ruvim Slyusar just completed his Gearbox Project in Mr. Garner’s Machine Tool Technology 2 class. Over the span of just a few weeks, he meticulously machined 21 pieces, which were then skillfully assembled and tested. The result? Everything works flawlessly! Great job, Ruvim! Keep up the fantastic work! Ruvim is a sophomore at Broome High School and is a concentrator in Machine Tool Technology. He is also taking Mechatronics and Electricity at DMTC. He plans on completing in the Machine Tool Technology Program .
